It’s the best time of the year — Halloween!!!
I may be biased, but preparing for Halloween theme week is totally my favourite of all the holidays. Kids are so excited, we get to dress up and there are SO MANY ways to include pumpkins, ghosts, bats and all the other spooktacular things that come with Halloween in our gymnastics lessons!
Here are 13 awesome station ideas for you. Some are my own, and some are from other gyms – I’m sure there is some Halloween theme week inspiration in here for you!
And if you like these ones, make sure you check out our follow up post “14 MORE Halloween Theme Ideas for Rec & Preschool Gymnastics”!
PS – this website is user-supported, so if you buy something via some of the links, we may get a little commission that helps us pay the bills! Don’t worry though, I wouldn’t share it if I wouldn’t use it myself 🙂
Ghost Kick to Handstand
This one is brilliant (and also covid-friendly) — both fun & effective to help kids find vertical. It’s done on a beam here, but could also be done on the floor.
Bat Bucket Toss
Working that arm and core strength — just casually tossing bats into buckets!
Materials: Rubber Bats, Bosu Ball & Buckets!
Moving Pumpkins
Place pumpkins (or similar) on alternating pylons and switch them from side to side (great for crossing the midline — motor skills and brain development, all while having fun)!
Parent & Tot “HallowBEAM” Circuit!
This IGTV video shows the whole beam circuit we did a couple years back!
Pumpkin Leg Toss
Love this one for working on powerful straight legs! All you need is some DIY paper ghosts and a halloween plushie.
Over the Pumpkins
Grab the bean bag in the bucket – step over the pumpkins to the end – then toss the bean bag through the jack-o-lantern face! Don’t have jack-o-lantern face? Here is something similar on Amazon.
Ghost Thief
Run to other hoops to steal their ghosts — the team with the most ghosts at the end, wins! To DIY the ghosts, crumple up some paper to make the head, then cover it with some scrap fabric (ie. cut up an old bedsheet or pillow case). Gather the fabric on one side, then tie or elastic it in place. Use a sharpie to draw on some eyes if you’d like!
Candy Corn Jumps
A great intro for star jumps or jumping jacks – or just for some coordination fun!
Leaf Toss!
While hanging, pick up the leaves with your feet and toss them as high as you can! These little leaves can usually be found at your local dollar store (or buy them here).
Spider Crawl
Over the spiders we go!
Bar Monster!
Dress up your bars as a monster — so spooky!
Build Your Own Skeleton!
Run to collect all the bones and then put them together to build a skeleton!
Flying on Broomsticks!
Channel your inner witch and fly away! If you do this one, make sure that boom is sturdy and won’t break!
And just for kicks, here are some fun decor pieces that could be fun to put up around your gym or use during your Halloween week!
Little pumpkin stress balls that are great for tossing & catching, collecting, stepping over and just about anything your imagination can think up!
