Top Posts of 2020!

Certainly 2020 has been a year to test our resilience.

Even with all the challenges, there have been some highlights sparkled along full of creativity, innovation and the coming together of our community in new ways.

By far, my favourite thing this year was our Virtual Summit for Preschool & Rec Coaches! The two day event last March drew in over 4000 coaches from all around the world to learn from incredible experts in our niche of the industry. We even won a “Best in Virtual Summits” award for the event!

Our community grew in other ways too. Our Facebook page is up to 11.6K people and Instagram is just a few shy of 10k! We didn’t get to do any face-to-face events in 2020, but I’ve loved connecting with many folks via zoom webinars, conferences & congress (even if it took a little getting used to)!

Thank you to everyone who has shared, commented, tagged, messaged and supported RGP in any way over the last year. I’m looking forward to what 2021 has in store!

The Top 10 Posts of 2020

These are based on overall engagement on our facebook and instagram accounts – which is where most of our people hang out. Come find us there!

Without further ado – let the count down begin!

NUMBER 10…

How I love this game! It might not be totally covid-friendly (I’m sure there must be a work-around) but it’s so fun! Thanks to Splitz Gymnastics for this one.

NUMBER 9

Don’t you just love stations that teach MANY things? This one by Futures Gymnastics is helping kids learn strong supporting arms (for upside down skills), lateral/sideways movement and weight transfer (for cartwheels), multitasking, motor skills AND learning colours! Seriously, it’s pretty cool to think that one station can do all that…

NUMBER 8…

What is better than combining learning with imagination and fun?! Coach enthusiasm is KEY in this one (well done Coach)! But seriously – you just know the kids over at Champaign Gymnastics Academy had a “blast” with this one!!!

NUMBER 7…

I like this drill by Titans Gymnastics for a few reasons, but most of all because it helps kids gain confidence finding/feeling vertical while upside down on the beam. Plus – it looks fun!

NUMBER 6…

Surely one of the most challenging thing about coaching during Covid-19 is keeping kids smiling and having fun — while being physically distant! This is one of my favourite games (Ship/Shore) reimagined for the current times. Shout out to Gymtastiks of Moose Jaw for this clip!

Shameless plug – if you are looking for more physically distant games, be sure to check out the roundtable compilation FULL of ideas (100 pages worth)!

It’s for sale here.

NUMBER 5…

This was the first Parent & Tot set up of 2020 that I did. I have to admit, I don’t think this is my most innovative circuit, but if you want to see more you can check out my IGTV channel for over 20 circuits for Parent & Tot inspiration (Floor & Beam).

NUMBER 4…

This drill got a lot of attention – and deservedly so! Teaching releve & turn form is a challenging endeavour, especially at the rec level. I love the way this one lets the kids experiment and figure out for themselves how turns work! Credit to Punch Gymnastics for this great set up.

NUMBER 3…

I remember seeing this clip and thinking “oh my gosh, why didn’t I think of that?!”…. there are many reasons to love this drill – the tactile nature squeezing the prop (and therefore legs together) so it doesn’t drop, the great motor skill practice involved, forcing kids to slow down and solve the problem/do the skill… AND, it’s just plain fun! Kudos to GymKyds Gymnastics Centre for this one.

NUMBER 2…

A well designed cartwheel progression focusing on that lunge and vertical kick over the top… PLUS cute dance moves!!! This one was shared by Team Central Gymnastics Academy.

NUMBER 1…

And here was our most popular post of 2020!
An classic but fun drill by Punch Gymnastics to teach straddle off (also known as straddle underswing) dismounts!

And there you have it! The TOP 10 POSTS FOR 2020!

Best wishes to all for a fabulous 2021!
